Onsiters, breaking down siloes and how to automatically syndicate podcasts to YouTube

It is the 8th weekly of 2023 is Friday, the 24 February and I'm just wrapping up my week with another weekly. Just a little bit of admin actually. Nominate has changed really. I've not spent too much time in the detail of this week. But one thing I did do last week was I took the opportunity to extend the Inbox edition a little bit. So in case you weren't aware, there's the audio version, there's a video version, there's obviously the blog that complements it all and pulls it together. But I also have a newsletter version which is onsitejobin.com newsletter and on that inbox edition version I've started to extend some of the bullet points so it gives you a bit more context of the insights of what I talk about. But then I will link through to the videos and audios at the end of the episode if you want to find out a bit more. So if you would like to get those in emails to your inbox on Mondays through the website Sarjoblockjoblin.com newsletter and you'll get all that. This week's been mostly about work, actually. Lots of cool stuff going on. On reflection, yesterday we had an onsiteer. Now typically you'd call these the offsiters back in the day before, a lot of remote working or maybe a retreat. But what we did, we actually pulled people together into the office, made the most of the collaboration spaces and had a really quite useful workshop all afternoon to talk about roles and responsibilities across our different kind of disciplines. So that included myself and a few of the people like engineering managers, we have platform leads who are very much more delivery minded but responsible for parts of the services that we provided, and Bas as well, who do a lot of the detail around the products, plans and the roadmaps. So we just went into the detail around what is expected of the of us all and then how we can set some facilities and accountability to those roles based on the output from those sessions. It did come up with some good ideas about what the winning ways of working, the things that look good or we feel like work really well. So we called them out as examples and started to pull them together and so it could be duplicated across other worlds that aren't necessarily getting to benefit from those ways. Now, this is pretty much a problem that you generally see in large scale organizations and enterprises where there are different ways of working and there's a lot of different teams that are coordinating their pieces. Less likely to be a problem in startups or scale ups where a lot of people are working closer. But it was a great opportunity to reflect on the cool things that we're doing across our teams and how we can make it a bit more consistent and benefit from those winning ways that we identified. And also today I had literally just come off the back of quite a really invigorating session. This is our tech develops Friday. We use the opportunity to do some learning, self development, personal development stuff. Part of that we also provide content, we provide some sessions, some dedicated sessions to focus on specific areas. So what I've been doing today, we actually came off a session to try and invigorate some inspiration, get people thinking about working on call new tech, how they can bring that to the table and share it with others. But ideally, again breaking down those boundaries and working across all the teams that are available to them and people. The session that we ran was actually across multiple departments at different disciplines and skills and you gave me a chance to actually work with some people I've never worked with before, which I really enjoyed. And as I got into the detail of what we're going to do today, it was really quite nice, good fun to get to know these people and work out what their skills are and their passions. What I loved about the session specifically was the conversation and the authenticity about this stuff. I was there to really champion this sort of cross team collaboration part which is my passion areas the other folks were coming in were there called new tech that have identified to see what it could potentially bring to the business and they were all of just talking about literally that their actual problems they suffer from the real world scenarios. So the feedback has been brilliant so far. We've had some wonderful people coming back up and saying, love what you're doing, really want to get involved and help you spark some inspiration around the organization. But again, really having that session as a four piece, it takes the emphasis off one person doing it in a group, but also you can actually use that to your advantage. You can have a conversation between each other on it just being one person presenting really quite productive day in the end, actually. So I'm pleased with how it turned out on the sides, literally on the side. Flat community. We had our first focus time last week on Sunday evening from eight till 10:00 p.m. In the UK. Now, I was a little bit late, I must be honest, I wasn't completely ready at 08:00, but it's fine. It's there for anyone that wants to focus on their side projects and it's just a blocked out time that you can dedicate to just focus on your own little side projects or whatever you want to play around with at the moment. But it was quite nice to have that async chat going on to start with. It wasn't that there was a video call that we were all jumping on, it was just you knew you could join the community and go, I want to look at this and I might actually do something with this as well. What's that? You're doing and tell me a bit more and get into maybe a demo out of what you're working on. It was fun. It was great fun. There was a few of us, think about three or four of us in the inn that got involved. And we're going to do it again this Sunday to try and keep the momentum going and get more people involved and see the cool stuff that people are working on across the community and in the background this week. It's like in between week with all the podcasting. I've got Monsarrat Kano's episode in production right now. I'm just finishing the edit on that so that can go out next week. And then I've got to pick up in Lurie's podcast that we recorded last week as well. Lots coming down the line. I've got some content I want to elaborate a bit myself. I've got a solo monologue piece that I'm thinking about that's probably going to come out in a few weeks time, maybe about a month when I'm happy with the format of that. On the tech side of things, I haven't been playing with a huge amount of things this week, but Headliner app, they launched a brand new website this week, a refresh to look, let's say. But it reminded me of the cool tech that's available there, actually. So if you don't know, Headline is quite a good app for taking a podcast audio, converting it into a video which can then be used in your socials and all that sort of stuff. It's very good at actually using machine learning to transcribe the audio as well. So I've played around with it in the past to kind of create content, audiograms videos that go out. What I'm also going to do is get the backlog of podcast episodes onto YouTube using Headliner. It's really good at synchronizing, but creating the videos in landscape mode that can syndicate straight to YouTube. And it's quite nice the time actually, because I've realized this week I've got access to the YouTube podcast feature, which is, I think it's been rolled out slowly, but the makelife work YouTube channel does have that available now. So I'm going to start populating all that content and getting it back up to speed. I've got about three seasons to catch up on actually, because I took my foot off the pedal on that area, but I feel like it's a great chance to get it up to speed and work out how that works. And equally, I was playing around with Medium's partner program this week as well. One of the FAMEside community called out Medium as a platform and like, who's using it and how people are using it. And I realized there's quite a few followers from my account on Medium. So I'm going to rethink my content strategy a little bit with this content here and make life work and maybe use that platform to get more eyes on the prize with this one. I'm not pushing it. It's just a chance to get me more engagement and actually get some feedback from what I'm doing. What works, what lands, what doesn't. I don't do this for the influencer status nonsense, but I do love that one comment that you get back from someone who has a listen. And I do get occasional comments from my good colleague Adrian and he picks up a little point that I make through the sort of content and make cloth work and other things. That's the bit that makes me happy. I like to get the feedback. So, subtle hint. Do send in your messages, thoughts on this content and what you like, what you don't like and what you'd like to hear. Maybe about as well. Entertainment. We haven't really watched much this week. We did go to see Antman at the weekend snooze fest. Literally, my measure of a good movie is, do I fall asleep? I'm not sure it's a great thing. And I literally did fall asleep, including my wife. It was that bad. I don't know what is going on with Marvel right now. They just seem to be churning out content that's not really very clever or good or engaging. And Paul Rudd just didn't get the opportunity to shine. He was the only reason we wanted to watch this, really. And it seems to be about every everyone else. I don't rate it. I think I've given it a two star this week, unfortunately. And I think there's a lot of Marvel fans out there that will just watch it because they love that stuff. But I'd love to know what they think. When I checked the letterbox reviews, it wasn't looking good at all. So that's it for this week. Again, short and sweet. I don't like to ramble too much, obviously it's very ad lib, but I've got my points to go through. But I will appreciate all your feedback. It's been a good week, productive. It feels like I'm making good progress on content and presentation skills and stuff like that. And then next week I will have more podcast content going out live as well. So, until next week, have a good weekend.
